Elliott Waves Series Part 2 - The Broad Concept

Elliott Waves Series Part 2 - The Broad ConceptYou can find Part 1 here: https://www.reddit.com/Forex/comments/hieuyw/introduction_to_elliott_wave_theory_overview_of/
The primary value that the Wave Principle (from here on out, abbreviated to WP) confers on market analysts is the ability to provide context for market behaviour. Having context is incredibly important. To put it simply, the WP can be thought of as a compass. Whenever you feel lost looking at a chart (ANY chart, ANY market!), the WP will help get you back on track.
Clearing Up Some Misconceptions About Elliott Wave Theory:

  1. R.N. Elliott first discovered the WP in the 1930s using charts of the stock market. Many misinformed people believe that the WP works “best” on stocks and has been adapted for use in other markets. This is simply false. To be clear - Elliott discovered the WP. He did not invent the WP. The WP is based on human social nature and therefore it cannot be invented. It has always existed. What Elliott did was to start codifying rules and guidelines around how human social nature can be charted. Ultimately, Elliott’s objective was to be able to predict future human behaviour using the historical record. The expression of human social nature generates forms and patterns. As these forms and patterns repetitive, they have enormous predictive value.

  1. Another major misconception around the WP is that it requires a lot of discretionary analysis, and more often than not, analysts shoehorn price action to fit the Elliott Wave model. In fact, the WP has very clear rules (these rules are inviolate under any circumstance) and guidelines (these guidelines should be adhered to almost 100% of the time). While there is a discretionary element involved in counting waves, properly trained wave analysts will ultimately arrive at a consensus because following the rules and guidelines narrows the possible wave counts very quickly. Very often Wave analysts will have 2 counts at hand in terms of where they think the market is presently situated. These counts are known as the preferred count and the alternative count. These counts are validated and invalidated using price levels derived from Elliott’s rules and guidelines. The most dissent I expect from two educated Wave analysts is that one analyst’s preferred count could be the other’s alternative count. This dissent quickly resolves itself as the price action develops and validates or invalidates one count or the other. This dissent usually occurs based on wave patterns of one higher degree. It is very rare that I have seen dissent on immediate market movements.

  1. I didn’t know this was a major misconception, but someone brought this up in my first post, “I stated that Elliott Theory has better success when working in consolidations or extreme ranging markets.” This is completely false. The WP doesn’t work better or worse regardless of the market or the market conditions. That would be like saying that breathing air only works occasionally. The WP is NOT a strategy, it is the definitive model for charting human herding behaviour. Human behaviour does not show up only in periods of consolidation or range-bound markets. The markets are themselves driven by human behaviour, therefore the WP is always equally applicable. From a trading perspective, the WP is perfectly suited to capturing trends.

  1. Well, what about news events? What about supply and demand theory? What about fundamentals?! Doesn’t any of this stuff matter?? In short, the answer is no. I have previously stated that I am a macro-based investor. This is certainly true. Much of the research I consume has to do with market fundamentals and global-macro analysis. This research helps me form a view that I can overlay with the WP. From a trading perspective, when it comes to actually pulling triggers and taking positions, my decisions are always guided first and foremost by the WP. Here is a fantastic quotation from Bob Prechter on this topic, “Sometimes the market appears to reflect outside conditions and events, but at other times it is entirely detached from what most people assume are causal conditions. The reason is that the market has a law of its own. It is not propelled by the external causality to which one becomes accustomed in the everyday experiences of life. The path of prices is not a product of news. Nor is the market the cyclically rhythmic machine that some declare it to be. Its movement reflects a repetition of forms that is independent both of presumed causal events and of periodicity.”
The Bottom Line:
Elliott Wave Theory is the best forecasting tool in existence. It has determined that the market’s progression unfolds in waves. Waves can be thought of as patterns that carry the market in a direction. There are a fixed number of the different kinds of patterns these waves can take. If you really boil this down to its essence, successfully applying the WP is as simple as identifying what kind of wave the market is currently in.
I will end this now. The next part will deal with the overriding wave structure that the market is in, the different kinds of waves we will see, and why this wave structure exists in the first place.

Kuvera GenXT: My personal review (was a part of it for several months so trust me when I say it’s not worth it)

Initial price: $250 USD
Monthly price: $229 USD (gets waived if 3 people STAY on your team)
Compensation plan: earn $500 USD a month if you introduce 12 people, $1000 USD a month if you introduce 40 people, $2000 USD a month if you introduce 100 people. IMPORTANT NOTES:
• these people need to stay in your organization each month, if one leaves you need to recruit another- so the whole residual income (money paid to you each month no matter what) thing is a lie. • if you bring in one person and that person brings 6 others, they all count towards you. (Hence why it’s a pyramid scheme) • your tree has to be “balanced” meaning that one person can only count towards 50% of your volume. For example: if you’re aiming towards the business builder rank (12 people), and you have a star recruiter on your team, only 6 people from that star recruiters team will count towards you. So warning the residual income definitely is not as easy as it looks.
I initially joined because I really wanted to learn how to invest but I didn’t know where to start. I saw one of the bigger leaders post about the opportunity on thier ig so I decided to join. I was really sceptical at first but my “upline” sent me proof it was legit: A+ rating on BBB (which is bs) , a yahoo finance article, and the company was registered with the SEC. Something still seemed fishy but I brushed it aside (dumb idea). From that day on I was told to go to as many different “opportunity” events as possible so I learn how to pitch the idea, and get my 3 people needed for a free membership. At first I really liked it, everyone was friendly and I felt I was doing something good. However, when I started investing I realized how difficult investing was. ALL of thier trading channels that you’re supposed to “copy and paste” alerts from are complete trash. I did everything I was told (place the alert at consistent allocation, don’t be too risky etc) yet I was either losing money or breaking even each week. One week a leader will say “follow this channel it’s really good” the next week you try it it’s trash again. There was no consistency at all which is needed if you actually want to make profits with forex. Moreover the actual forex education was horrible, the kuvera videos were no help and most “traders” weren’t knowledgeable. If you want to learn from am-mature university students, be my guest and join.
The deeper I got in, the more difficult it got. I was told that I had to post everyday on social media because consistency is the key to success (or so they say). I did that for several months and although I got a few people enrolled, many dropped out eventually. I also had a difficult time recruiting because we weren’t supposed to mention the price (because it’ll scare people), and we weren’t supposed to mention kuvera since a quick google search can reveal a lot of negative things. Instead our goal was to just peak people’s interest and get them out to an event or online webinar where one of the leaders explain it in the least sketchiest way possible. Looking back, I spent a LOT of time on social media as well as the “special events” and even though I’m supposed to have more freedom since it’s not a 9-5 job, it was the complete opposite. If I missed an event my up-lines made me feel guilty and bad about skipping. My team eventually grew to many people, and I was told I had to start “being a leader” and leading by example. I was told to go to every event, host my own events, and cold market everywhere. This blew my mind because the whole reason I joined was because I wanted more time to myself, yet I felt I had less and less. I eventually got fed up because there was barely any trading training, so I slowly stopped going. And that, is when I finally got my common sense back :) . I noticed the following:
1.) a lot of the top leaders who preach that they’ve achieved financial freedom are far from the opposite. They’re either struggling with getting their first 3 people and are just faking how it “changed their life”, or they’re at either bb or exec (500-1000) a month which is barely anything compared to if you got a J.O.B.
2.) Nobody mentions their losses during their presentations. When the leader of GenXT (Matt) asks the “team” how much money they made with the system, it’s always the same people. They rotate them and mix it up every now and then but in general it’s the same pitch. If you want an idea of what the system is actually like, ask different people in the room to show you their profits from day one. Not today, not last week but their entire track record.
  1. They want you to “stay close to the fire” and attend as many events and webinars as possible so you stay brainwashed
4.) All of the team culture events (restaurants, basketball games etc) are all there to distract you from the fact that not many people are making profits.
5.) Don’t believe everything you see on social media. They may be posting lavish lifestyles but every single trip they take together (Florida, Mexico etc) was paid individually. The company does not pitch in for anything. We were actually encouraged to go on these random trips because it creates more marketing content and shows people you’re making money.
6.) I noticed a few members were using demo accounts and posting their results on ig which is very misleading. If you see people making $300+ a day and using crazy allocations, just know they either: have a lot of capital, are risking their entire account, or they’re using a demo.
7.) You need A LOT of money to invest into forex in order to make a liveable profit. Either that or you need to be highly skilled, and trust me you won’t learn anything from kuvera.
8.) All the top leaders that make money through residual or forex are literally glued to thier phones. What’s the point of joining something like this and not having a moment of peace? Why not just get a job at least you’ll have weekends in peace.
9.) They talk a lot of shit about jobs but they’re not all that bad. At least you get paid for everything you do, you could put in 100 hours to an mlm and not receive anything in return. And jobs have health benefits, sick days, and sometimes even paid vacations.
10.) If you’re a part of an mlm you’re not a “business owner”. You’re a sales representative for the company.
11.) A lot of the people involved in mlm’s are literal vultures. They’re always looking for people to recruit everywhere they go which is sad.
12.) mlm’s ARE pyramid schemes, they just hide behind a product so they can legally operate.
13.) MLM’s like kuvera sell a dream rather than a product. They claim you can be your own boss, and become financially free just because the distributers see a few big leaders living that way. There are countless webinars and training sessions that motivate you to keep going and never give up, because the people at the top depend on the people at the bottom. The whole point of creating a team culture, is to make sure that people continue to have the right “mindset”, and to make sure their people do too. Because duplication is the most effective way to create strong recruiters. And although it is possible to make lots of money if you’re good at selling, the entire mlm system is flawed. You could be making loads of money from recruits, but at the expense of potentially hurting a lot of the people you bring in. After all, if no one pays the monthly fee, the company would not be able to pay their distributers.
Some of you may be reading this and thinking I’m pretty stupid for falling for a scheme like this, and you’re right. I lost more than $1500 just from paying the monthly fees but I kept going because my uplines convinced me that it took one of the biggest leaders (rakan khalifa) a year before he made it to his rank. It took me a long time to even find the courage to quit because everyone knew I was in it. I didn’t want to make it seem like I gave up because it was embarrassing. But I’m glad I did. If you’re a part of it right now the best thing to do is walk away, but ofc the choice is up to you.

[educational] Stretgies for day trading based on Technical Analysis

[educational] Stretgies for day trading based on Technical Analysis

1. Breakout

Breakout strategies center around when the price clears a specified level on your chart, with increased volume. The breakout trader enters into a long position after the asset or security breaks above resistance. Alternatively, you enter a short position once the stock breaks below support.
After an asset or security trades beyond the specified price barrier, volatility usually increases and prices will often trend in the direction of the breakout.
You need to find the right instrument to trade. When doing this bear in mind the asset’s support and resistance levels. The more frequently the price has hit these points, the more validated and important they become.

Entry Points

This part is nice and straightforward. Prices set to close and above resistance levels require a bearish position. Prices set to close and below a support level need a bullish position.

Plan your exits

Use the asset’s recent performance to establish a reasonable price target. Using chart patterns will make this process even more accurate. You can calculate the average recent price swings to create a target. If the average price swing has been 3 points over the last several price swings, this would be a sensible target. Once you’ve reached that goal you can exit the trade and enjoy the profit.

2. Scalping

One of the most popular strategies is scalping. It’s particularly popular in the forex market, and it looks to capitalise on minute price changes. The driving force is quantity. You will look to sell as soon as the trade becomes profitable. This is a fast-paced and exciting way to trade, but it can be risky. You need a high trading probability to even out the low risk vs reward ratio.
Be on the lookout for volatile instruments, attractive liquidity and be hot on timing. You can’t wait for the market, you need to close losing trades as soon as possible.
https://preview.redd.it/dzaf7t1nvdh31.png?width=653&format=png&auto=webp&s=f3d96d74311de806c3809698df2a964e3eb4db5e

3. Momentum

Popular amongst trading strategies for beginners, this strategy revolves around acting on news sources and identifying substantial trending moves with the support of high volume. There is always at least one stock that moves around 20-30% each day, so there’s ample opportunity. You simply hold onto your position until you see signs of reversal and then get out.
Alternatively, you can fade the price drop. This way round your price target is as soon as volume starts to diminish.
This strategy is simple and effective if used correctly. However, you must ensure you’re aware of upcoming news and earnings announcements. Just a few seconds on each trade will make all the difference to your end of day profits.

4. Reversal

Although hotly debated and potentially dangerous when used by beginners, reverse trading is used all over the world. It’s also known as trend trading, pull back trending and a mean reversion strategy.
This strategy defies basic logic as you aim to trade against the trend. You need to be able to accurately identify possible pullbacks, plus predict their strength. To do this effectively you need in-depth market knowledge and experience.
The ‘daily pivot’ strategy is considered a unique case of reverse trading, as it centers on buying and selling the daily low and high pullbacks/reverse.

5. Using Pivot Points

A day trading pivot point strategy can be fantastic for identifying and acting on critical support and/or resistance levels. It is particularly useful in the forex market. In addition, it can be used by range-bound traders to identify points of entry, while trend and breakout traders can use pivot points to locate key levels that need to break for a move to count as a breakout.

Calculating Pivot Points

A pivot point is defined as a point of rotation. You use the prices of the previous day’s high and low, plus the closing price of a security to calculate the pivot point.
Note that if you calculate a pivot point using price information from a relatively short time frame, accuracy is often reduced.
So, how do you calculate a pivot point?
  • Central Pivot Point (P) = (High + Low + Close) / 3
You can then calculate support and resistance levels using the pivot point. To do that you will need to use the following formulas:
  • First Resistance (R1) = (2*P) – Low
  • First Support (S1) = (2*P) – High
The second level of support and resistance is then calculated as follows:
  • Second Resistance (R2) = P + (R1-S1)
  • Second Support (S2) = P – (R1- S1)

Application

When applied to the FX market, for example, you will find the trading range for the session often takes place between the pivot point and the first support and resistance levels. This is because a high number of traders play this range.
It’s also worth noting, this is one of the systems & methods that can be applied to indexes too. For example, it can help form an effective S&P day trading strategy

6. Moving Average Crossover

You will need three moving average lines:
  • One set at 20 periods – This is your fast moving average
  • One set at 60 periods – This is your slow moving average
  • One set at 100 periods – This is your trend indicator
This is one of the moving averages strategies that generates a buy signal when the fast moving average crosses up and over the slow moving average. A sell signal is generated simply when the fast moving average crosses below the slow moving average.
So, You’ll open a position when the moving average line crosses in one direction and you’ll close the position when it crosses back the opposite way.
How can you establish there’s definitely a trend? You know the trend is on if the price bar stays above or below the 100-period line.

$40 - $1,000 Flip Challenge Update

Quick background for those new here. This started with me saying that if a person gets suitable good at entering the market and finding places to get high RR trades, it is entirely possible to flip small amounts of money into larger ones relatively quickly. To demonstrate this, I said Id flip $40-50 into over $1,000 over a year and link up Myfxbook to track all my trades. I’d also run versions of the strategy with the info posted for people to log into the accounts, see the trades and copy them if they want (see ForexCopy).

The first one I bust on day one. I tried to do it really quickly ($1,000 in a week or so from $40). I got up around 200% - 250% and then zero’d it. The trades I lost in where not really good opportunities, and I as overly aggressive with them. Was dumb.

The second one I tried running via a copy trader, it messed up early trades and vitaly went bust in the opening hours (I do not think it ever went into profit).

The “I can flip $40 to $1,000 as long as I can keep reloading $40s” challenge is far less impressive. So, I have been reloading that account with tiny amounts, trying to get from $2 or so up to a more useful equity figure. I have failed doing this various times, but it has been down to accuracy being less sharp that it may have been rather than this not being viable.

This is viable. It is fucking hard. Don’t get me wrong. Entering the market when you have 5 - 7 pips before you get margin called is tricky. Kinda fun, too. Good training in getting entries. With a couple good entries, though, entirely viable. $2 can get to $5, $5 can get to $15 and that is enough pips at 0.01 to have a damn good cracking at catching some big moves. Realistically, I think it only takes 10 really good trades to have a fairly useful bankroll.

So let’s just write the $40 - $1,000 thing off. I bombed that.

I am willing to up the ante. Rather than $40 - $1,000 over 12 months, I think I can do $2 or $3 to $5,000 in 18 months.

This is contingent upon a couple things;

This may sound outlandish and crazy, but the maths behind this are fairly solid. All it takes is catching a few 50 - 100 pip trades. A few of these can take $2 to $30, a few more and it is over $100. I can get 1:10 - 1:15 risk reward trades, and can increase risk:reward with in-trade management and adding positions (or hedging positions in profit). So using 5 - 10% risk in really prime opportunities, and it does not take many of them in a row to make some decent money compounding an account from $100.

Technical Details on Margin Requirements
You may be wondering how this can even be feasible. It may seem logical that even the best trader in the world could not get started from $2, but actually with the right brokerage conditions and pair selection, this can be done.

I am using IC Markets. I have 1:500 leverage.
Commission per trade is 0.6 of a lot (so, about $0.04-0.06 per trade with my position sizes).
My spreads are usually under a pip. They sometimes go to zero spread.

Pair selection.

NZD and JPY are the lowest margin requirement currencies, and these can trend well. So I focus on these for starting out. I am trading NZDJPY, I require $1.33 margin to open 0.01 lots. So this means if I close all my trades and have under $1.33 I can not open any more trades.
However, my stop out level is 50% of my margin requirements. So I get stopped out when I have $0.65 equity. This gives me about 15 pips from $2. I can also hedge this, and can use ways to manipulate margin requirements to get the most bang for my buck (which can be good or bad, it goes both ways, but it gives me more options).
So with these settings, to take $2 to $10 is not all that hard. Catch 50 pips or so a couple times without the first trade drawing down 10+ pips. With $10, I have 100 pips at 0.01 (or the option of far more creative positioning), I think 100 pips is plenty margin for error to get into a few good trades and get going.

I’ve pinned the Myfxbook for this to start from today (16th January 2019) since this is the first day I am taking this seriously.
https://www.myfxbook.com/members/inweedwetrust/40-1000/2893650

Deposit $1.50 + account balance $0.65 = Slightly over $2 to start.
The net deposit on this account is now around $66.

Update.

I want to quash this idea that the only way someone can make large returns in FX is using reckless risk and gambling. Obviously many people do this ,but some just know ways to get far more reward for their risks.

Here is a trade I am. I had about $3.50 equity when opening the first two trades. 5 pips and 2 pips stops. I was risking about $0.50.

https://preview.redd.it/ljohtjwqdwa21.png?width=1366&format=png&auto=webp&s=24d62c7296c8afdc15907dbe42a18a37f389e1fd
Then as the move has developed, I have adjusted my stops and added to the position. I am targeting 60 pips or so here, about $20 pay off. I have nothing at risk now. I will end the trade really close to breakeven, if not slightly up.

I have turned $0.50 risk into potentially $20 profit, and done this in the space of 10 pips.

**I am not saying this is easy**. It has taken me years of studying price moves to know how, and far more importantly when to do this. I am saying it something that can be learned, and when applied well ... can be surprisingly profitable.

Update.

https://preview.redd.it/1jptz02cfwa21.png?width=1366&format=png&auto=webp&s=a8af8bd06a16058ae2369fe634215116d806fc31
Now I have set hedging orders on an area I know price often pulls back from. If it pulls back to the level I expect, I can exit the hedges and have the buy stops under there. If it then goes higher, I banked an extra X% on the gain with the hedges.
I have set a hedging order above the high for if price blows through the take profits (making me short) and continues upwards. The worse case scenario sees me lose rather little, the best case (price filling take profits and then coming down to make the sells profitable, or the price retracing so the sells are profitable then it making a high) yield substantial profit potential.

Piling up potential profit, without adding on much potential risk.

Update.

https://preview.redd.it/v70pqc9qiwa21.png?width=1362&format=png&auto=webp&s=a252499e2dc4f5ffc782fb6e44ffc5d8b8fb0fa6
Then I use the rules of the Extreme Edge strategy to trail stops. To get my line in the sand. I now have locked in a profti (albeit small) and can potentially make somewhere in the $25 - $30 range or perhaps more from my $0.50 risk.
https://www.reddit.com/Forexnoobs/comments/af15l9/extreme_edge_strategy_detailed/

Update.

This never worked out (I screwed it up). It is a lot harder with $2 on a 1 minute chart whilst posting live updates. However later you will see how I can take these same principles that can make $0.50 risk into $20 and use them to get into positions where $10 risk can be $300. Or where $100 can be several thousand.

Update.
So I was a bit early on that move, but this is what it looks like when it works. Occasions to position like this happen fairly frequently. I can get myself into these positions where I am risking a nominal amount for much larger gains many times in a day. I can take the same principles and apply them to weekly charts and position for "flash crashes", and other volatile moves.
This is obviously on an account with more equity, I got margin called on the small one, will try again tomorrow. I was probably 2 pips away from going to $2 to close to $100 today (assuming the trades come through as I think). Will be abl to check what it could have been. If I'd hit the first trade, it would have mirrored the trades in the account that is copying my account *2 risk. If these swings hit, this account may make about $50 in them. Which will put it up about 100% (trading only 2x 0.01 at any time) since we fixed the margin/FIFO copying issues. Bit early to be counting chickens, but we'll see. https://www.myfxbook.com/members/drcherrypoppemt4-9084923/2910254

Auto-trading fun with Bollinger bands [Novice level].

Whilst we have a fair few 'novice' posts about TA and Global Macro (aka "Fundamentals"), there aren't too many involving auto-trading. Seeing as I'm in the middle of teaching myself MQL4, I thought I'd throw this out there as discussion prompter.
By "novice", I mean someone who has moved beyond complete beginner ("what's a FOMC and a NFP?") but still not deploying robust and market ready strategies ("how does market structure affect news event response?"), so constructive criticism, informed commentary or taking the ideas and developing them further are very much the point of sharing in the first place. It's not meant to be a showcase of code, because the code is a mess!
This post got me thinking about how relatively trivial it would be to implement a Bollinger Band mean reversion autotrader.
Project Goals
My interest in the project was as a way to begin development of a skeleton EA that would use a custom indicator to implement trade signals. The point of this would be to allow for faster prototyping of visually based autotrading before taking it to the testing environment. The key advantage of this is that you can see on your charts which entries are being missed, something that is much more laborious to do via visual mode in the strategy tester.
Concept Development
So to begin the project, I sketched out the concept.
One way to trade Bollinger Bands is to trade the reversion to the mean. Intuitively, we expect that wider deviations from the mean will result in more reliable reversions to the mean. To explore this we could enter when price breaches the second SD band and then returns back inside it.
Here's the default Bollinger Band on default settings in MT4, demonstrating this sort of behaviour:
http://i.imgur.com/dK2oDO7.png
Prototyping
I want to use the indicator, and not the EA, to generate trade signals, as this is the point of the project for me. Because I'm lazy and grew up coding in basements, I opt to fiddle with the default indicator code rather than build up from scratch.
My first goal is to add two things.
Firstly, I want to add another layer of bands, because I saw a set up like that a while ago and liked it. (This is not a very good reason, and I think it costs me down the track).
Secondly, I want to add in a way to visually indicate the trade signals before we pass them to the EA.
Adding another set of bands is just a copy and paste of the existing bands. My learning point here is that I need to adjust the amount of buffers to match the number of bands I want. This comes into play for adding the trade signal arrows, as they need to go in the same sort of structure as the second lot of bands.
[I know from reading about the project goals in advance that EAs access custom indicators via iCustom(). This function can only receive the contents of one of the first 8 indicator buffers. Thus the idea will be that the buffer that marks out the trade entries on the indicator will later be used by the EA to mark out where entries should be. It's possible this is not the best way for EAs to access custom indicators , so input from more experienced coders is welcome!]
#property indicator_chart_window #property indicator_buffers 8 // <---- have to set this to match your copy and pasted buffer amount #property indicator_color1 LightSeaGreen #property indicator_color2 LightSeaGreen #property indicator_color3 LightSeaGreen // hack in (make 'em colourful. It also has two buffers that will use the DRAW_ARROW style to mark out potential trades.
Adding trade logic
I still can't decide if it's better to isolate the logic code in the Custom Indicator or the EA, in the long run. There seem to be performative, stylistic and redundancy issues, but for the moment the project is to put the logic in the Indicator, so that's what I did.
The fastest way to prototype this idea seems to be identifying when price closes outside of the far band.
This is trivial to achieve. We compare the close to the two outer bands, and if it's outside them, then we set the relevant trade signal buffer.
//
 double tempclose = close[i]; if(tempclose>(ExtUpperUpperBuffer[i]+10*Point)) { SellSignalBuffer[i] = high[i]+(20* Point); } else { SellSignalBuffer[i] = 0; } if(tempclose<(ExtLowerLowerBuffer[i]-10*Point)) { BuySignalBuffer[i] = low[i]-(20*Point); } else { BuySignalBuffer[i]=0; } }
It works!
http://i.imgur.com/Ak3UkkK.png
Green arrows successfully mark out possible sell entries where price closes above the top band, and red arrows mark out possible buy entries when price closes below the lower band.
The logic can be a lot more complicated than this obviously, but the point of my project is to develop the iCustom technique, rather than make a good autotrader.
Now it's time to switch to the EA.

Getting Large Sums of Yen (millions) back Home (to US) in 2 Months

American living and working in Japan. Heading back to US in 2 months.
Have saved around 5 million (hyaku man) yen over the past few years. Remitted on occasion. Had no loans or anything to pay off. Figured that I could send it all back in one large sum. Figured wrong.
Want to get cash back and available for use when I get back to the US. Any ideas?
Here are some of mine, each with their own problems and some questions for people who might have answers, thanks in advance, any information appreciated:
1.) Remitting via 国際送金 (international money transfer) - limits amount you can send back every month (I believe it's 30 man for the post office). With limit, it would take around a year to get all my money States' side. By that time, I'd be out of Japan. Lots of fees attached because I'd be sending to a bank in the US that is small and uses an intermediate bank.
2.) Carrying in cash - have to deal with Japanese customs going out; American customs, TSA, and (hopefully not) DEA going in. Have traveled with large amounts of cash before, but nothing that I had to declare. Heard horror stories about things like civil seizure and intensive questioning, even after making official declaration with customs.
My money is legal, its origin is well documented (I'd have documentation on me), and I have no past criminal record or investigations: still, I worry about government protocol holding me up or drawing too much attention.
Even if I make it through, I have a huge chunk of yen that I'd need to have converted into dollars. Any ideas how / where to do this at a decent rate?
3.) Foreign Currency Exchange Market (FOREX) - tried doing research about opening a FOREX account in Japan, but most sites are entirely in Japanese. My Japanese is conversational, and not capable of navigating through these sites. If I had more time, I'd like to go this route.
4.) Money order - I've used Western Union before, but their rates are horrible, and they cap your transactions at 10 hyakuman per month.
Also, not many locations in the US can even cash that much. And (speaking from experience) the ones that do are not the place where you want to have $10,000 on you. Tellers will draw attention to you when they count your money. They take their time, making a long line behind you.
Thanks again.
DISCLAIMER: I'm not look for ways to circumvent paying taxes or reporting my income to the appropriate institutions. I'm just seeing what legal means are available to me to transfer my funds to the US. No desire nor intent to break the law.

Log of AMA with coindash - @alon (Alon) CEO from CoinDash.io

boldninja Let us all give a warm welcome to @alon (Alon) CEO from CoinDash.io. AMA can begin, give him some time to catch on with questions and answers.
bangomatic :clapping:
alon Hi Everyone!
jakethepanda :clapping:
tranzer hi @alon
alon Great to be here!
arigard All this BTC shit is just a storm in a teacup anyway
jakethepanda Hey @alon
dr10 Welcome
tranzer @alon how does coindash compare to Iconomi and their user-based funds you'll be able to invest / copy?
jakethepanda On top of that question, include Melonport.
5eb6o Sorry as I said I am drunk.. and I welcome everyone.. but why coindash? I mean isn't it pretty close to dash coin... or I am missing something... why not something unique
joelafc LOL
darius sup alon
welcome to the thunderdome
alon Hi, i think Melonport and ICONOMI are more of an investment instrument.. they provide a tool for people to invest in crypto assets. We are more focused on answering what peopel whould invest in and when. For that end we also intend to integrate with both of them because there is a good chance they will become a good investment instrument
tranzer are there any partnership plans already in the making with them?
dr10 So its more like a Follow Trader platform, where you do the moves that successful traders do?
alon @tranzer i can't comment on that for the next 24H :slightly_smiling_face:
ben123 Got it
alon @dr10 social trading is a great means for reducing friction for inexperienced and new traders, making crytpo trading more accessible
jakethepanda Can you briefly explain how the coin fits in to the platform?
darius ^ this
dr10 Is Coindash its own blockchain or based ontop of another?
boldninja Where do CoinDash tokens come in play? I mean where will they play a role, like paying someone subscription for private portfolio c/p or tipping or something different?
jake beat me to it
ben123 I think that's what I read about them
alon @jakethepanda we see it as fuel for using various features on the platform. If you follow someone and copy his investments you will pay a fee for that ... that fee is payed with the CDT token
@dr10 we connect to the various blockchains/ exchanges
ben123 How will you be able to compete against enigma? It's similar to your concept and they seem very promising.
tranzer When will the copy and paste functionality be introduced into your dashboard, product?
dr10 so you are your own blockchain? didnt get that
alon @tranzer we are expected to release copy-ICO towards the end of the year... until then we will work hard on the dashboard and other investor exploration (we will be rolling versions fairly fast once every 2-3 weeks)
@dr10 we are not
darius So the platform need it’s own token to tip someone? Sounds like you coulda built an app without it’s own token tbh.
its*
tranzer Are you in the talks with any of the exchange yet? Probably we'll see you on Bittrex correct?
alon not tip but reward top investors who get followed.. also the followers get financial benefit from that so its natural they will pay for it
@tranzer yes we in talks with some exchanges
jakethepanda The beta currently only allows for a link to an ETH address. Will be able to link say an ARK address, eventually?
darius Do you mean top investors are rewarded by the platform with your token? How would that work, is that based off how long they hold a top position?
alon @jakethepanda we already integrated various blockcahins and exchanges.. we will start rolling them soon
numba1enigma How do risk adjusted returns fitinto all this
alon @darius they are rewarded by the people following them as fees.
@numba1enigma that an important indicator to understand how your portfolio performs against the market. This will roll out soon alongside other indicators
darius Oh so this is taking private paid advise discords/slacks and putting them all on a platform.
Clever
numba1enigma Tell me what a sharp ratio is?
alon @darius imagine you can see the performances of the bet traders in the space, follow them and copy their investments... this is what social trading is
numba1enigma The following and payment mechanism in terms of sharp ratios
Roi of two managera without sharp ratio considerations is worthless
tranzer There is bonus in first week - 30% how will that be awarded will first week deposits count for example if you invest 1 ETH count as 1.3 ETH?
jakethepanda On top of @numba1enigma question, what kind of risk analytics will be on the platform?
alon first day is 30%... you will get immediatley 30% additional tokens
numba1enigma Byw the way iconomi and co foundit didn't know what a sharp ratio was until two months ago
alon @numba1enigma i'm not sure i follow... various indicators effect the performance and risk level of the investors. Risk adjusted returns could very much reflect how truly profitable that investor is and lets you decide how much risk you want to take by following him
darius Who are your competitors? I know there’s a platform that does this but I can’t think of their name for the life of me
alon @darius you probably are talking about eToro maybe?
numba1enigma You should take a look at markov analytic tools to bucket mutual fund returnes to rank performance
It would be helpful to you
ben123 Enigma ico is coming out in August and they seem to be a competitor also.
tranzer How many users are there already using your platform currently? How much joining lately on daily base?
jakethepanda How does fiat integration figure into the platform? Trading directly from the platform will be available?
alon @tranzer we opened the beta 11 days ago. Now we have 2.5K users with 200-250 added daily
@jakethepanda thats something we are interested in but will come in a later change. It fits very well in our mission to make crypto trading more accessible to the public
darius https://1broker.com/?c=en/home 1broker.com 1Broker.com - Bitcoin Forex & CFD Trading 1Broker connects Bitcoin with global markets. Trade forex, stocks, commodities, indices and cryptocurrencies on our minimalist platform.
That’s the one i saw a couple twitter guys say they were on
https://1broker.com/?c=en/content/copy-trader 1broker.com Copy Trader - Social Trading - 1Broker (2kB)
ben123 Seems interesting
jakethepanda I noticed that RSk is one of your partners. Will CDT also be on Rootstock?
alon We did a POC integration with RSK with the CoinDash platform a few months ago... more will be announced in the coming month (very interesting stuff)
jakethepanda Interesting
tranzer alon would you consider something like that with Ark as well? Seems like a nice fit.
alon @tranzer definitely!
jakethepanda I noticed there isn't anyone on the team with a quant finance background. Who is developing the risk/performance analytics?
alon you should learn more about Adam and Ram.. both with a lot of experience in finance (Adam opened eToro's offices in Shanghai). Most the team has years of experience in crypto trading as well
tranzer will you be able to leverage coindash coins against some investors and use other coins to trade if that makes sense?
jakethepanda Since many people in crypto are new to trading and investing will there be tutorials and investment education tools? Based on questions noobs ask they need this. (edited)
jarunik I still don't really get how adding the coin to the mix brings any advantage compared to other social trading platforms. What do I miss?
alon yes there will be tutorials and mostly beautifully made UX/ UI
tranzer how are tokens going to be saved? Will this be centralized? I mean in order to copy someone you'll need to move coins within platform no?
alon the CoinDash Token enable us to fund our activity and create an amazing community around the product who have a huge incentive to help (in our case the investors are also the end users). We tie the token to the platform so its success is also the success of the token.
so for the copy-ICO feature foe example we use smart contracts
alon uploaded and commented on this image: Pasted image at 2017_07_14 11_22 AM.png 1 Comment
BTW :slightly_smiling_face:
mike Nice looking announcement
jarunik You could just do that with a normal crowdfunding ... what incentives give the coins exactly ? (edited)
jakethepanda Will there be a mobile app?
alon yes
tranzer Where do you get current prices from CMC or have your own service?
jakethepanda The beta app doesn't seem very social. How will the future version of the app change to be more of a social platform? (edited)
alon from CryptoCompare curently
next step will be the ability to discover other investors and follow them
darius @jarunik This way they don’t have to go through VC’s to raise a $12 MM seed fund. Use the hype of ICO’s to raise it instead because people want to profit from their coin.
alon the dashboard is the data layer on top of which the social feature will come
tranzer so if 12m is raised in first day its over no additional time and some other weird rules like we have seen with few recent icos?
jakethepanda Can you discuss any of the partnerships on the web page? Antshares or Wings?
One concern I have is that whitelisted addresses are going to buy up the entire offering. Do you have any mechanisms in place to avoid this?
alon Wings we did the forecasting and used some of their tech. AntShares, Tony the CEO invested and is our advisor
jakethepanda Thanks
alon i don't think they will buy it all... its a way for us to say thank you to the people who supported us, its not a long list. 250 people list
jakethepanda You would be surprised how much money is floating around crypto. It only takes one or two whales in the 250.
darius lol
jakethepanda I can think of 10 people in crypto that can blow a big dent in that cap.
Just saying
alkar Can my profile be private if ever I don't want to share my portfolio
alon i am too but most of those people gave us huge help the past year... people who were our first social media users.. beta testers stuff like that
@alkar yes, it can be totally private
darius That’s promising
can you answer @tranzer’s question “so if 12m is raised in first day its over no additional time and some other weird rules like we have seen with few recent icos?”
alon no weird stuff... very simple ICO :slightly_smiling_face:
guys my phone might die any second so if i'm cut off its ebecause of that
tranzer that is good to hear, didn't like how some were handling recent icos, extending time, adding some last minute changes, ...
jakethepanda @alon The project looks amazing. I'm out of questions for now. I will get you in your slack if I think of more.
boldninja Any last questions for @alon as his battery might die out?
jarunik Do you have a battery bank?
jakethepanda I think it died
boldninja Can you sell battery bank energy back into the network?
alon No dead yet ;)
jakethepanda One more question. Is that Warren Buffet on your web page?
On the product page.
alon Ahah might be a caricature(my fav investor)
jakethepanda Haha
Everyone can join coindash slack https://www.coindash.io/slack/
boldninja OK I think no more questions are coming - I'd like to thank alon for taking his time to do this AMA and I wish him a good and successful launch of ICO and product later on. Hope we'll be able to cooperate further down the line. You are always welcomed here at Ark.

I'm 23 and trying to solidify a FI plan, anyone so kind as to assist?

Hello FI! (throwaway account, sorry :( )
So, I'm a bit of an overachiever. Most people would consider me in excellent financial shape; I feel like I'm nowhere near where I want to be. The prospect of retiring at 60 with four weeks of vacation a year seems so bleak. I love travelling, learning. I'm a dual citizen in a european country and trilingual, though I've lived in the U.S. the majority of my life. I can think of so many things I would fill my time with if I could. Time is everything, and I dislike how much of it work sucks up.
Right now, I live in a low-cost-of-living region making ~50k annually from employment in the IT field. I purchased a foreclosure and fixed it up, and have a roommate in covering about half of my base home living expenses (mortgage/insurance/electric/utilities). If figure I ever decide to move, I'll rent the house out. To be honest, I strongly dislike the entire region I live in, but it's cheap.
I have a Bachelor's, but no student loans.
I get my travel fix via an airline credit card. I put all of my expenses on it and pay it off every month. I get free tickets and fly where I feel when I can line up a place to stay (relatives or fans...was a notable name in a competitive gaming scene in the past so people've put me up when travelling).
I decided to correct my spending about three months ago. I've been getting about 33% in savings a month since then with only minimal life changes. I'm going to try to push it to 50% next year if I can. This is after taxes/401k contributions/benefits, none of which I skimp on.
(33% == ~$1,000 a month surplus.)
I'm not really capable of going full Jason-style ERE, unfortunately. I really do enjoy my social life and am not willing to give that up- especially as I grew up as something of a geek and I'm kind of flourishing for the first time. But I am significantly cutting down my spending...not eating when I go out or having very little, for example, and no fast food ever.
I put my employer match in to my 401k. I see people saying to max the 401k, but...I can't touch this until I'm 60, right? I'm not going to leave money on the table, but I don't see why I should put extra in to the 401k when I can probably invest it elsewhere better.
Thing is, I don't know what to do with the next year's savings. I'm wary of the stock market; I don't trust that we're going to go back to the normal ~11% a year gains on average anytime soon. I could pay off my mortgage, but the interest is low enough that I could probably get better returns elsewhere.
Right now I have:
I owe <30k on my house at 5.25% interest. If I maintain the last three month's saving rate (without raising it to 50% like I hope), and pool my funds (not counting the 401k), I could pay off the house by the end of next year.
So...I don't know where to go from here. If I make consistent returns on trading, maybe I'll dump more money in to trading forex/options, but at the moment I'm dead even. I'll see how that goes. I'm working with a realtor and investigating real estate right now- I'm also thinking of buying an investment property to rent out, with a loan. I hate taking on more debt, but the math works out.
What do you guys think? Kill off the house debt? Or invest, and if so, where? I don't find stocks appealing for the next few years, but taking on debt for real estate makes me nervous.
EDIT: Where do most of you generate passive income? Stock/ETF/bond portfolios or real estate, right? I'd like to imagine I could retire in this next decade, but that's probably not realistic as I would travel a lot in retirement...sigh
